When Paula Coffey expanded her school to Stoughton, Paula Hereau (then Medeiros ) was very excited that her mother enrolled her there. Several years earlier, Paula Coffey (then Ortenzi) had performed at a Daughters’ of Italy mother and daughter tea and Paula “MH”was star struck. Within several months of joining Paula’s Studio of Dance, she had a chance to begin to emulate her role-model by student teaching and dancing out at various organizations; so began a long partnership of intermingling dance, community service, and friendship.Paula also studied at the Brockton Academy of Ballet. At the University of Connecticut she majored in physical therapy and as a member of the UConn Dance Club focused on modern and African dance.
After college, she resumed classes in ballet, studied flamenco along with Horton and Ailey modern jazz technique at the Joy of Movement Centers and Jeanette Neill Studio and returned to PCDC as a ballet teacher. Several years later, her mother, Rose Medeiros, an inveterate “dance mom” returned to the studio as it’s secretary. Paula continued to take classes alternately in ballet, jazz and tap at Dance Forever in Braintree.
Outside of dance, Paula earned a master’s degree in health management at Framingham Sate College. Following her work as a physical therapist she worked in various capacities and was recently appointed the Vice President of Operations at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital where she is responsible for running the hospital on a day to day basis and it’s transition to a new facility planned for April 2013. Paula lives with her husband Rich in Stoughton. Paula claims her most sublime experiences have been when she has had the opportunity to combine her health care and dance skills in work with PCDC students who have had neurological injuries.
